The project involved enhancing flood protection along the Elbow River in the Beltline area of Calgary. The plan included raising the height of the existing retaining wall and adjacent parking lot to mitigate potential damage from seasonal river flooding. To achieve this, a careful construction approach was proposed.

A temporary instream dam was created to establish a safe working area that allowed our team to begin demolishing the upper section of the existing retaining wall, followed by the installation of a new retaining wall behind the existing piles. The new wall consisted of steel H piles, pre-cast concrete panels, and a steel fence.

Additionally, the project included repairs to the school building's foundation perimeter retaining walls and exit stairs, which were to be completed before upgrading the parking lot. All designs and construction methods were subject to regulatory approval to ensure the protection of the Elbow River.
